    Ogawa Ryu Jujutsu

Post by Creamy creamy baileys on Fri Jan 18, 2013 1:38 pm

It's been my experience that some judo instructors (in the past) have offered generic "jujitsu" classes...which are really just judo with karate strikes. IOW, there's not really been any systematic integration.

In my opinion, "Ogawa Ryu jujutsu" seems to do a nicer job then most block/strike/lock approaches.

    YMMV

There's no ogawa-ryu of jujutsu. There is, however, an ogawa-ryu of tea ceremony.

I don't really know what to write? I didn't enjoy those clips. First clip was judo with exactly what you said you didn't like? Second clip was typical of some schools in that they break an arm then arm lock the same arm again? Throw strangle, strangle again then arm lock. Just how many times can one kill a corps? Notice the pure judo techniques? Ju jutsu was not so refined or developed and an awful lot more effective against a real attack. I could name all the throws in those clips as coming from the gokyo of kodokan judo. How was that ju jutsu?
I also imagine David Caradine to waltz in to the tune of the wind instrument!
In general, some harmless fun but it is neither fish nor meat. It is not judo, not ju jutsu and not goshin jutsu etc. Its a rather odd mixture exactly how you described what you didn't like?!

    Just my initial reactions,

    Mike

I watched those videos, and thought to myself "this is what we make fun of when we talk about what's wrong with traditional jujitsu." and the title of the first video just kills it. it's like they're trying to make fun of themselves. or just trying to make it really easy for us.

I believe someone started a thread on what they called demo-jutsu. this falls into that category quite well.

    Hi Mike

I didn't say I didn't like it. I said most times when judoka try to put on a pseudo-jujitsu display like this, it's a fairly lacklustre affair. In this instance, I felt it was a pretty good demo. In other words, I enjoyed it. Please note: I'm referencing the 1st video in this response

Ooooh ... negative comments ... someone is jealous about someone else getting a compliment.

Fair enough - I appreciate the civility. Let's chalk it up to horses for courses.
