Mr. president Putin does not understand judo well

Mr. president Putin does not understand judo well
The president of Russia speaks about judo time to time. He speaks about his training, about judo philosophy, about what judo teaches him and that his actions in politics are come out from judo.
Yasuhiro Yamashita ( legendary judo champion from Olympic Games 1984 ) and friend of Vladimir Putin expressed in his interview from 2004: President Putin clearly stated, "Judo is not simply a sport, it is also my political philosophy. It is the basis of how to envisage the world, and of how to build relations with the opposition in politics".

Mr. Putin is a co-author of russian book about judo, we can see some Putin's photos or videos from his practice of judo. In the year 2008 he received 8.dan from IJF (International Judo Federation) . The president IJF Mariusz Vizer from Austria talked: "President Putin represents a high expression of the Judo Values in the world."

Which high expression of Judo Values does president Putin represent? I don't understand, I think that Mr. Putin and Mr. Vizer DO NOT UNDERSTAND judo philosophy and values well.

    Im trying to explain more:
Jigoro Kano 嘉納 治五郎 ( 1860-1938 - founder of judo ) statued two main quotes: the "Seiryoku Zen'yo" and "Jitta Kyóei" as main ideas in his judo philosophy.

精力善用 - "Seiryoku Zen'yo" (good using energy) is simplified term "Seiryoku Saizen Katsuyo" 精力最善活用, which means "The best application/using energy".
精力- Seiyroku - "energy, power, vitality"
最善- Saizen - "the best" - sai 最 (maximal, extraordinary, the highest, extremly), zen 善 (good, virtue, kindly)
    活用- Katsuyó - "practical application/using"

精力善用- Seiryoku Zen'yo - (shortly say Zen'yo - character zen 善 from Saizen a character 用 yó from Katsuyó). You can all translated as good (for good /welfare) using energy or as maximal efective using energy. Character 善 zen expressing good, welfare, virtue and it gives the joining of words next new meaning - altruism. The meaning GOOD IS IMPORTANT.

Jigoro Kano used the term "Ju no ri" (principle of gentleness - based on classical chinese text "Ju yoku go seisuru" - yielding can overcome/defeat the resistant) ) from jujutsu (old japanese unarmed way of fighting) at the first and after next years of his study and searching for general principle he replaced it with term "Seiryoku Zen'yo". The next Kanos main term "Jitta Kyoei" (mutual benefit) was result of his reflecting about altruism from "Seiryoku Zen'yo". The best impact of using own energy is when you use your energy for benefits and good of other people. The efective using energy without altruism is egoistic and could'nt be safe for other people.

自他共栄 "Jitta Kyóei" (mutual benefit for self and other) is simplified term of 自他融和共栄 "Jitta yúwa kyóei" (mutual harmony and benefits for self and other)

自他 - Jitta - "self and other"
    融和 - Yúwa - "harmony, (re)conciliation "
共栄 - Kyóei - "mutual benefit"

Judo techniques are based on the principle of a combatant using the motion and momentum of the opponent in order to apply his own power in an optimal manner, thereby generating even more power. Kano Jigoro appealled to his pupils for practicing judo principles "Seiryoku Zen'yo" and "Jita Kyóei" in the training in dojo and in everyday life too. Very shortly said:
1, in the level on the dojo (practice hall), on the tatami (mats) - it means searching of effective using judo techniques and power how unbalanced and defeat opponent during randori (free sparing) / shiai (match) / kata (forms of techniques) without causing of injury him, selfdeveloping own body and mind with hard practicing with our partner and together improving our personality, courtesy and respect to opponent/sparing partner
2, in everyday life level - selfdeveloping, good and efective using own energy and acting for good and benefit society, courtesy to other people )

Yasuhiro Yamashita in his interview from 2004 sums up the ideas:
Jigoro Kano expressed it by saying "make good use of your strength" and "look to the mutual benefit of yourself and of others." This means that we should make the best use of our own energy to do the right thing, to respect others, and to build a better society for oneself and for others. The essence of the spirit of judo is contained here.

    Putin's Judo

Back to Mr. Putin and judo philosophy and his political actions:

My question: Where is the Putins "Jitta Kyoei" (mutual benefit for self and other) and altruism in solving situations with russian opposite politics, with russian media freedom, situation of Second Chechen War, Ukraina ?

    My opinion:
May be he uses efective his energy for build relations with the opposition in politics. Events in past give me the understanding, that his posture is using good energy for him - it is egoistic and not safety for his opponents, no mutual benefit. No good understanding of judo philosophy.

Mr. Putin DOES NOT PRACTICE the Kano's philosophy of judo - the results of his political actions are in opposite with Kano's ideals. If he would understand the judo philosophy well or better, so he could has to be act other in his oposite politics in Russia, in situation in the Ukraine - more freedom, peace, harmony - less prisons, weapons, violence.

    Sorry for my english.

Unfortunately, Putin's policy acting as the consequences of an escalation of violence in these areas and civilian casualties (tens of thousands people). Do you think this is the meaning of judo or Jitta Kyoei?

    No any imperialist garbage...

Putin didn't create or fund Wahhabi or Banderite Nazi terrorists. You're thinking of America.

    Putin...

Post by noboru on Wed Sep 10, 2014 6:56 am

I do not think as an American, I'm from Czech Republic, which is quite close to Russia. In the past, our country was in the army of the Soviet Union after twenty-five years. The Army of Soviet Union "occupied" our country long time (1968 - 1991).
Putin's policy (and also American) is dangerous for the safety of world peace. Russian "takeover" Crimea is something that is not no excuse. Putin in his comments to the troops in the Crimea mystified and lied, so it is with separatists in Ukraine.
I watch russian television news and our czech (not American) too (czech tv and press send the own czech journalists). It looks as if there were two different events... I follow Putin's statements and observations and his ministers too. It is a good strategist, but also populist and not a good leader Russians can only sell it in the media.
However, for its policy is a lot of dead and violence - this is not judo or Jitta Kyoei.

    hedgehogey, where are your from?

In all fairness, Hedgehogey did not say you were thinking as an American, but that you were thinking of America. The two expressions are very different in meaning.

Gotta admit I had to look up "Banderite", thanks for that !

The Wahhabi remark I can get, but Banderites were (are) nationalist Ukranians. I didn't find an references to American funding, you talking about modern times or pre-ww2? "Banderites", or their founder at least, did work with Nazi germany in the sense of Ukranian independence from the USSR (when Germany attacked USSR WW2), is that why you used the term "Banderite Nazis", or just because of the nationalism and maybe socialist tendencies ?

Why Mr Putin wants to return to the glory days of the USSR ... the real reason ...

    Yes, you have right. Sorry.

One correcttion too in my previous post:
In the past, the Sowiet Union army residented in our country from year 1968-1991.

Banderites seek to emulate Bandera's reign of terror, when he and his Galician SS troops rounded up and killed tens of thousands of Jews.

Here's John McCain with Oleg Tyahnybok, head of the Banderite Svoboda party:

Millions of American government dollars would be given to them to "create democracy" in Ukraine. The even more extreme Pravi Sektor party would be armed and funded, going from fascist militia to stormtrooper unit (such as the so called 'Azov Battalion', now attacking the seperatists), by a government funded by the USA. That you don't know these basic facts shows that you really can't comment on the Ukrainian situation at all.
