I have a copy of this book. While not related directly to Judo, it is an excellent book. It is well-written, and a good opportunity to learn about this seldom covered era of history.

My mother in law was one of the Japanese stranded in Manchuria after the war. Her stories of the predations by everyone - Soviet soldiers, Chinese and Korean civilians - against unarmed, defenseless Japanese civilians are horrific. The Soviet mistreatment of the Japanese military and civilians imprisoned in Siberian labor camps after Japan had surrendered resulted in a huge death rate, over 46,000 out of around 594,000 Japanese held until the last was released in 1950. http://www.gwu.edu/~memory/data/government/russia_pow.html

Tomiki Kenji, a civilian university professor / martial arts instructor, was imprisoned from 1945 to 1948.
