    Edward F. Miele

Through a used bookstore, I came into possession of a liberally annotated copy of the 1955 hardcopy edition of Illustrated Kodokan Judo. The annotations are by the original owner of the book, Mr. Edward F. Miele. While the value of the book, as a collector's item, is probably diminished by the hand-written annotations, I am finding those annotations to be highly interesting, and on the verge of being scholarly. Mr. Miele studied every aspect of this book with a thoroughness I usually expect from my very best university graduate students.

Some of the annotations are not as legible as I would like, but those that are provide a perspective that is interesting to read, even educational. I rarely encounter anyone who makes such copious notes on every waza in the book.

I already own a pristine copy of the 1955 edition, but I am grateful that I have been able to acquire this annotated copy and benefit from Mr. Miele's detailed annotations, including advice from some of his sensei at the time he was studying, advice that is sometimes written in the margins of his copy.

Does anyone recall Mr. Miele? Is he still involved in Judo? Does he want his book returned?
