    BJA Contest Rules Questions

Post by Hayashi on Sun Nov 13, 2016 9:57 am

    Greetings,

Are the following techniques still allowed in competition?

    1) Ko-uchi-makikomi (https://youtu.be/uU2xuduCeTw?t=3m57s)
    2) One arm Sode-tsuri-komi-goshi (https://youtu.be/uU2xuduCeTw?t=3m6s)
[Both links are to different times in the same video]

In asking this question I am thinking about the placing of the arm of the thrower in relation to the leg of the throwee.

If not allowed exactly as demonstrated, are there minor variations one could make in order for them to be allowed? I'm thinking of changes which would have little impact on the use-cases and effectiveness of the techniques, but which would make the difference between them being allowed or not.

If someone has a link to the current contest rules in full I'd be grateful if they'd share it with me.

    Thanks for your time.

    Regards,

    Hayashi.

Under the current BJA contest rules you cannot touch below the belt while in tachi-waza, so modification have to be made to both techniques to be legal in competition.

1)Ko-Uchi-Makikomi can be done if the hand that would grab the leg grabs the right sleeve of uke, with this grip you can use the elbow to help block the leg
2)One arm Sode-tsuri-komi-goshi requires a slightly greater modification, the hand that would touch the leg is instead placed along uke's back just above the belt line, this will generally require Tori to somersault to finish the technique

These are the current BJA contest rules:
