Congratulations to Jim Bregman on his promotion to USJA Judo 10th dan on 19 January 2018. Jim Bregman represented the U.S. at judo in the 1964 Tokyo Olympic Games, winning a Bronze Medal in the under 80 kg category. He was presented with his 10 dan certificate on 7 July 2018.

If that was the promotion ceremony it was very poor indeed.

    Hi Jonesy

Jim Bregman represented the U.S. at judo in the 1964 Tokyo Olympic Games, winning a Bronze Medal in the under 60 kg category. wrote:

There was no "under 60kg category" at the Olympic Games 1964 Tokyo and Bregman didn't win the Bronze Medal.

    Results Light weight Category (-68kg):

    Gold: Nakatani (Japan)

    Silver: Hänni (Switzerland)

Bronze: Stepanov and Bogoljubov (both former USSR)

Did Judo with Eric Hänni (now 9th Dan) from time to time. Think he is celebrating his 80th birthday next year. Very energetic man and still active as Judoka (teacher, referee kata) as far as I know.

What planet did you practice Judo, Vulcan?  Here are the results from Judo at the 1964 Summer Olympics – Men's 80 kg:
    GOLD: Isao Okano (Japan)
    SILVER: Wolfgang Hofmann (Germany)
    BRONZE:  James Bregman (USA)

My mistake - should have written

"There was no "under 60kg category" at the Olympic Games 1964 Tokyo and Bregman didn't win the Bronze Medal in lightweight  category(-68kg)"

    Sorry for that!

There is a good article in "Black Belt Magazine" edition february 1965 (page 17 and 18) about the middle weight category (-80kg) of the Olympic Games Tokyo 1964.
