    Competition area safety zones

Post by NBK on Wed Apr 24, 2013 9:47 am

    Got this yesterday.

'The USJA President will be have a joint meeting tonight with the USJF regarding the standard mat area that will be allowed for local and regional events. Included in the discussion will be Mr. Fukuda. hopefully their will be an agreement that will come of this meeting that will allow a safety zone of three meters to be used in local and regional events. what ever comes of this meeting will then be discussed with USA Judo as well.

As we all know there have been significant changes to the rules which include safety areas being extended. If there is no flexibility with the safety areas it will effect local and regional events where the venue is not big enough for the new requirement. The number of mats needed to run these events will also increase causing many smaller events to discontinue. This will hamper the progression of judo rather then furthering it. These are the concerns of coaches, students and organization leaders on the grass ruts level.

if they refuse to budge on the safety zone issue, maybe just make the competition area smaller? I mean people are gonna play the edges anyway, regardless of mat size.

    Yeah well ... duh!

These guys just figured this out? BM had it within minutes of his first post.

As I have said before, Mr. Putin and his mob can take the IJF rules, showboating referees and all, and jam the whole thing ...

It's not judo, it's a mafia to milk money from sport ministries, but our friend the Japanese who SHOULD know better have for years been busy squandering any moral authority they may have had and totally flushing it down the ...

Meantime, it is occurring to bright individuals (edit #2: seriously, these guys are doing a great job, just wish they could be let loose to do it) mentioned that somehow we were insured 30 years ago under other rules and other referees ... so why aren't those same rules ... which were in fact more focused on safety ... why can't we issue national rules based on fair, safe JUDO competition and common sense and tell the Olympics wannabees to

(edit: by the dawn's early light the original was over the top, even for me!)

... the Olympics being the biggest scam running since the indulgence racket of the Middle Ages ... and we know how that ended up.

A 2m safety area with the current out of bound rules is hairy, especially for teens and seniors. As GJ noted, making the competition area smaller would help. Reduce by 1 m and there you have it. Of course, a smaller area means maybe more continuing out of bounds...

2m with 3 meters between comp areas was the norm for a long time. If put into the original sanction request, I recall could reduce safety areas.

Nothing forces the national orgs to write their insurance policies to IJF specs...
